| As part of the Liter of Light campaign, DIS students assembled over 3,000 solar bottle lamps, which were later laid out to form a Ghaf tree. The project gave students practical insight into sustainability, energy use and how simple, hands-on actions can create meaningful impact. | That same approach continues to shape sustainability across the school today. |

DIS is an active member of the Alliance for Sustainable Schools, a global charter that connects students to sustainability initiatives across the UAE and beyond. Student leadership sits at the centre of this work, with representatives from different sections of the school helping to drive ideas and action.
The campus itself supports sustainable learning through dedicated spaces.
Outdoor Learning
The Tolerance Garden and Hydroponic Garden have increased biodiversity on site and provide living classrooms where students explore food systems, environmental care and responsible growing. In Primary, sustainability is further embedded through a fully established Forest School, where outdoor learning is a regular and meaningful part of the curriculum.
Student-led initiatives play a key role. | The Eco Warriors and the Sustainability Council lead projects focused on waste reduction, environmental awareness and responsible habits across the school community. Their work has supported strong progress towards reducing single-use plastics, alongside daily actions related to recycling, water conservation and energy awareness. Sustainability at DIS is reinforced through both large initiatives and everyday choices. |
Thoughtful printing, mindful use of resources and curriculum links to global citizenship help students understand sustainability as part of daily life.
