Our Community

Deira International School is a community school in the truest sense of the word.

Coffee mornings, UAE Flag Day, National Day celebrations, International Day of Tolerance and Diversity, exhibitions, family events and a Parents Association (DISPA) that genuinely gets stuck in. With more than 90 nationalities under one roof, community is something you feel from the moment you walk through our gates. 

With a family community representing over 90 nationalities, DIS is the kind of place where newcomers settle quickly, long-term families stay closely involved, and everyone finds their rhythm.

DISPA: parents who get involved and make things happen

Community at DIS is active, visible, and genuinely welcoming. A big part of that is DISPA, the Deira International School Parents Association, a parent-led group that supports school initiatives and helps create opportunities for families to connect.

DISPA’s energy shows up in practical, feel-good ways, including:

  • Exhibitions and celebrations across the year, including UAE cultural moments
  • Community events, competitions and family-focused activities

Celebrating the UAE, properly and proudly

As a school based in Dubai, DIS places strong emphasis on recognising and honouring the UAE’s national identity and values. Emirati culture is not treated as a calendar add-on but as a visible and respected part of school life.

Across the year, the community comes together to mark key national occasions, including:

  • UAE Flag Day, where students and staff proudly raise the UAE flag high, participate in activities that reflect unity, respect and national pride
  • UAE National Day, celebrated through assemblies, performances, traditional dress, classroom learning and family-facing events

International Day of Tolerance and Diversity

Each year, our community comes together to celebrate the cultures, traditions and perspectives that shape life at DIS. Through student performances, cultural showcases, interactive country booths and shared food experiences, the day reflects the values of respect, inclusion and understanding that sit at the heart of our school.
