Languages

At DIS, we believe that learning a language enables students to fully embrace the culture and to gain a more profound understanding of their own culture. All students from Year 1 to Year 9 are required to study Arabic as a first or additional language, depending on their first language (mother tongue) and nationality.

All students study French as a foreign language starting in Year 4 while we offer Spanish as a foreign language starting from Year 8. All Arabic as an additional language students are encouraged to study Arabic as an IGCSE, in addition to French or Spanish. At IB students can choose to study French, Spanish or Arabic at various levels. Library provisions further supports language development with a range of books in languages from around the world available.
