Deira International School is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) www.cois.org
There are just over 300 schools worldwide which have undergone the rigorous standards set by CIS and DIS is one of only few schools in Dubai to have attained internationally accredited status.
These include a full written self-study, as well as a week-long visit from a team of accreditors to the school. The whole process took over a year and Deira International School was awarded this distinction in 2009, just four years after opening its doors for the first time in September 2005.
Accredited schools are subject to regular monitoring through routine progress reports and visits, and they must undergo a full re-evaluation every ten years. CIS accreditation is accepted throughout the world as an indicator of a quality international school.
CIS recognizes that schools which are different may be equally as good. The fundamental premise of the accreditation programme is that an educational institution must be evaluated in terms of the CIS Standards for Accreditation and the degree to which the school is putting its own philosophy and objectives into practice.
Deira International School is an IB World School www.ibo.org. The School offers both the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career-Related Certificate (IBCC). The IBDP is a very rich curriculum programme and students may study from a wide variety of subjects as well as being expected to participate in community service projects, field trips, sports and other activities. The IBCC students undertake work experience and training in local businesses as well as their academic studies.
DIS is one of the only few schools in the world to offer the IBCC and was the first school in Dubai to pilot the IBCC programme.
DIS is a member of the British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) organisation. BSME is one of the largest organisations for British Curriculum schools in the world. Please visit BSME website for more information www.bsme.org.uk
