Library and Media Resource Centre
The Library aims to provide a modern multimedia resource centre and a welcoming, inclusive learning environment which is central to the school, actively supporting teaching and learning within the school, recognising and valuing each individual as a lifelong learner, supporting the development of independent learning skills and fostering a love and enjoyment of reading in all its forms. We are committed to equality of access and aim to offer opportunities for all students to take responsibility for their own learning and recreation, effectively and with enjoyment.
All students are encouraged to visit the library to read and checkout books for pleasure and information, use the computers for research, and do homework. Students are instructed in the necessary skills to locate books and other resources in the library and to utilise reference materials. They, as well as staff, are encouraged on every level to be a part of the curriculum which is a guide to better learning and application of knowledge acquired.
Our libraries host book fairs for both English and Arabic books, as well as invite local and international authors and illustrators, especially during the Emirates Literature Festival.
New books and resources are added regularly to expand student interest and availability. Some of our newest books include an increase in our Arabic and Islamic collections, as well as a selection of other foreign language books. Additionally, we have ‘high interest/low reading ability’ books too. There is something for everyone in the libraries!
The Secondary/IB School libraries are open from 7:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday. They are open during breaks and lunches but closed Sunday and Thursday afternoons.
In the Primary School, children are timetabled to visit the library for a formal lesson and to borrow books once a week in Early Years and every other week for children in Years 1-5. Children also visit the library at other times for information.
