Welcome to Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL)
Language learning is a building process that requires considerable time and practice, but it is one of the most rewarding things your child can learn in school.
Rather than primarily listening to the teacher, reading the text, and memorizing information, our language learners will be involved in fun, exciting activities and games, your child will work with others to practice new words, sounds and sentence structures.
A considerable amount of time will be spent on learning vocabulary and practising the language, until students are familiar with it and are confident enough to produce oral responses and use the language in real life situations. Many students will find that using flash cards and doing written practice will help them become confident using the building blocks of language.
Your child will learn Arabic through:
1.Phonics interactive games, worksheets, and flashcards, to teach sounds and the blending of sounds with short & long vowels.
2.Games for building up vocabulary, such as Bingo, memory games and guess what? Games.
3.Listening and speaking Pair work through games such as “my turn, your turn” activities.
4.P1 homework will be sent home, once the teacher feels that your child is confident enough to do the homework without help.
5.P2 Students will bring home a weekly piece of work according to their homework schedule.
Exercise Books will stay in class, but will be sent home the first week to be covered and returned the next day. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
