Welcome to our Primary School
Ahlan wa sahlan, welcome, to DIS Primary School, a school which provides an engaging and stimulating environment where children from more than 70 nationalities participate in challenging learning experiences, work co-operatively and independently, develop friendships and social skills, take part in physical activities and develop into successful students and life-long learners.
DIS Primary students are taught the necessary skills and are continually encouraged to take an increasing responsibility for their own learning and assume more responsibility for their own behaviour, so that they can make the right choices and develop as responsible young people.
Each student's progress is monitored throughout the year using a variety of assessment tools, including classwork, homework, portfolios, projects, formal assessments along with peer and self-assessment. Progress is reported formally to parents once a term, but parents are very welcome to discuss their child's progress with teachers at more frequent intervals.
Our team of highly motivated, caring teachers are able to use a variety of stimulating teaching methods to successfully facilitate children's learning. They are hardworking and conscientious, striving to ensure each student in their care reaches their full potential, not only academically, but also socially, physically and emotionally.
Our teachers are trained and qualified to teach across a variety of age ranges and subjects, from English, Mathematics and Science to Computing. Students in Years 1-6 also have access to specialist teachers for Music, PE (Physical Education), Arabic or AFL (Arabic as a Foreign Language), and Islamic Studies. Year 4-6 students also take lessons in French. We are proud to be a fully inclusive school and our Learning Support staff provide extra support or challenge for students who may require it.
Many parents and visitors to DIS commented on the welcoming and friendly atmosphere evident throughout the Primary School. This is vitally important to us as parents need to feel confident that their children are in a school which provides a caring, safe and stimulating environment where children feel respected and valued as individuals.
Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child's education by keeping in regular contact with the teaching staff, showing an interest in the daily school activities and homework, attending Parent - Teacher meetings and Student - Led Conferences, and participating in special days and events at school, such as UAE National Day, International Day and Sports Days.
I hope the information above has provided you with an insight into our Primary School. Please feel free to visit us so that you can see for yourself what we can offer your children.
